RAS NCAA Football - "Early Looks" Report - Week 8
About this update: The RAS "Early Looks" Report is released each Sunday Night shortly after the opening numbers for the following week's games are posted at major offshore sportsbooks. It typically will include 3-7 plays with analysis. This report focuses on beating potential line moves during the week. All plays are recommended for a 1/2 UNIT.
Money Management: Money management is even more important to the success of a sports bettor than picking winners. Please practice sound money management and always wager responsibly. Win streaks and losing streaks will occur, do not overreact to either.
Week 7 Recap: Navy starting QB Brian Hampton was taken off the field on a stretcher in the first quarter of a scoreless game and did not return. The Navy defense kept it close for a while but unable to move the ball they eventually were blown out in the second half. UNLV fell behind 14-0, made a switch at QB and then scored 28 unanswered points to lead by 14 at half. New Mexico forced four turnovers after halftime to pull out a wild 1/2 point cover in overtime.
*Lines current as of 6:30pm PST on Sunday.

NC State at Maryland (-3.5) - 9:00am Pacific - Game #121-122
Although Maryland failed to cover last week, they battled back from a 20-0 halftime deficit to win 28-26 at Virginia. They are now 4-2 and off to their best start since 2003. They still are improving and have plenty of value at this point in the season. Maryland has finally established balance in their offense as junior RB Lance Ball has run for 100+ yards in back to back games against above average defenses. Meanwhile, redshirt freshman WR Derrius Heyward-Bey continues to impress and senior WR Drew Weatherly caught his first pass of the season last week. Weatherly was a projected starter before missing the first four games with injury. This will be Maryland's first home game vs a recognizable opponent all season and it is also homecoming week. NC State was brought back to reality last week losing at home to Wake Forest. Young Wolfpack QB Daniel Evans threw an interception late in the game that ended a comeback attempt. He will not only have to rebound from that mistake but also make his first career start on the road this week. NC State was blown out 37-17 at Southern Miss in their only road game this season. Maryland is 27-7 straight up at home since 2001. Give the points.

South Carolina (-3) at Vanderbilt - 12:00pm Pacific - Game #137-138
The Gamecocks are a perfect 3-0 ATS since moving Syvelle Newton from WR back to QB. The offense is much better off with a more mobile QB like Newton due to suspect pass blocking on the offensive line. Newton is surrounded by impact players at the skill positions in RB Corey Boyd (still running hard after being suspended all of last year) and WR Sidney Rice (1st team SEC last year). The South Carolina defense has been strong all season. They are allowing just over 14 points per game. JC transfer LB Jasper Brinkley has led the team in tackles since day one and surprise true freshman DE Eric Norwood leads the team in sacks despite limited playing time. Vanderbilt is coming off a gigantic win at Georgia that may be one of their biggest in the Bobby Johnson era. It will be very difficult for them to not experience some letdown this week. Vandy already played without their top offensive lineman Brian Stamper (hamstring) last week and one of their best run blockers LG Josh Eames left the Georgia game with an injury. Both are questionable for this game. Being that Nashville is one of the nicest places to visit in the entire SEC, Vanderbilt is lucky to have more than half of the fans at most home games. They are just 4-26 straight up in last 30 SEC home games. South Carolina is coming off a BYE week and cannot afford to let this win get away. Give the points.

Colorado State at Wyoming (-4) - 1:00pm Pacific - Game #161-162
Wyoming has found their QB of the future. Redshirt freshman Karsten Sween is now 2-0 as a starter and his last six quarters of play have been almost flawless. Wyoming beat Utah 32-15 last week but the game was not even that close as the Utes returned a fumble for a touchdown late in the game. The Wyoming defense has dominated its last two opponents and now ranks 7th in the nation in total defense. Sack leader DE Mike Groover returned to the lineup two weeks ago after not playing in losses to Air Force and Syracuse. Now that the offense is finally showing consistency, Wyoming might still have a shot at a bowl game but they will have to keep on winning. Colorado State's win at Fresno State three weeks ago looked impressive at the time but the Bulldogs have turned out to be a bad team since. The Rams have been decimated with injuries in recent weeks. They have three defensive starters expected to miss this game and two others who are questionable. The offensive line has been shuffled around multiple times due to injuries and they have only been able to produce two 100 yard rushing games all season. Look for Wyoming to continue its winning ways.

Oregon State (-2) at Arizona - 4:00pm Pacific - Game #173-174
I have been high on the Beavers all season and they finally put it all together last week with a big road win at Washington. Senior QB Matt Moore has been a major disappointment this year but had his best game of the season vs the Huskies completing 14-of-19 passes for 307 yards. The OSU defense has also been a disappointment but has now had two solid performances in a row. It was just the type of win Oregon State needed to turn their season around. Arizona is coming off a win over lowly Stanford last week in which they only had to attempt seven passes. Stanford QB Trent Edwards suffered an injury that took away any little hope the Cardinal had. Arizona lost backup QB Adam Austin to a knee injury. Starting QB Willie Tuitama has had two concussions in the past month and his status remains uncertain. Even before the second concussion Tuitama's effectiveness had been dwindling. Third stringer Kris Heavner is likely to get the start. Oregon State lost a heartbreaker to Arizona last year by 2 points and finished the game with a -6 turnover ratio! Oregon State is 6-2 ATS as a road favorite under Mike Riley. Give the small number.
