Dear RAS Subscriber,

Money Management
Money management is more important to the success of a sports bettor than picking winners. Please practice sound money management and always wager responsibly.  Winning streaks and losing streaks will occur, do not overreact to either.

Line Value (Updated 12/22/06)
College basketball lines are very volatile, especially early in the season. I generally advise to place wagers as early as possible, but if the line on a play has already moved more than a 1/2 point before you get to it, it may be best to take a wait and see approach as they will often get bought back the other way later in the day. Always make an effort to shop multiple sportsbooks for the best line possible. Buying points up or down on key numbers 2 & 3, and even 4 & 5 is something to consider as lines get sharper.

RAS Added Looks
(Recommended as 1/2 UNIT plays)
*Three plays Saturday:

Penn State (+8.5) at Purdue - 9:15am Pacific - Game #515-516
Penn State is worthy of at least one more play after their impressive win over Northwestern on Wednesday. The Nittany Lions did not get a big scoring output from star Geary Claxton (15 points) but still dominated the Wildcats thanks to strong performances from the supporting cast. Four players finished in double figures as PSU shot 64% from the field and dominated the boards in a 26 point blowout. Penn State went a respectable 3-5 SU and 5-3 ATS in Big 10 road games last season and are now 12-6 ATS in last 18 conference games. Purdue has not been playing at a high level in recent weeks. They are just 3-3 in their last six games with the three wins coming vs Wagner, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, and SE Missouri State, all at home. Head coach Matt Painter has juggled his starting lineup in past two games but he cannot address the team's glaring lack of frontcourt size and depth until next season. Purdue is likely to play better at home today but is still not deserving of this type of favoritism. Take the points.

RAS Added Look: Penn State +8.5 1/2 UNIT

Ohio State at Illinois (+1) - 11:00am Pacific - Game #535-536
It has been a disappointing season thus far for Illinois but today they have an opportunity for a big win. The Illini are finally getting healthy as they had their full roster available for a practice on January 1st for the first time all season. They are coming off two hard fought losses at Xavier and at Michigan but competed well in both. Head coach Bruce Weber canceled his post game interview and spent 40 minutes in the locker room after loss at Michigan on Wednesday. This is an experienced Illinois group with nine letterwinners back from a 26-7 team and I expect a top effort from them Saturday. Illinois has beaten 7 straight ranked teams at Assembly Hall and is 101-5 (.953) in all games played here since 2000. A reunion of ex-Illinois players will boost attendance with students on break. Ohio State has been beaten soundly in their only two true road tests, albeit vs top notch opponents, but they are still a very young and inexperienced team. The Buckeyes were less than impressive last time out in Big 10 opening win vs Indiana that was played at home. I expect them to have their hands full today. Take the live home dog.

RAS Added Look: Illinois +1 1/2 UNIT

Pacific at Cal State Fullerton (-8.5) - 6:00pm Pacific - Game #649-650
There is no denying that Fullerton can be an explosive team when given the right motive. Pacific head coach Bob Thomason may have given them just that when he was recently quoted, "If I cared about wins and losses, I would have played Fullerton's schedule." Pacific has been a league power for the past two seasons so this is a game Fullerton would have been pointing to anyway. Pacific starts a freshman and a sophomore in the backcourt and Fullerton's ultra quick guards should give them fits on both ends of the floor. The Tigers have started 2-0 in conference play but needed to come from behind to narrowly beat CSUN (who is winless on the road) in Stockton and got a break from the schedule maker by facing cellar dweller UC Riverside in their first conference road game. Prior to beating UCR, the Tigers were 0-5 in true road games. Starting F/C Michael White missed last game due to injury suffered vs CSUN and is very questionable for this. Key reserve guard Solomon Horsecheif missed CSUN game and only played 7 minus vs UCR due to illness. Expect the Titans to win this by double digits. Give the points.
