Dear RAS Subscriber,
Welcome to the 2006-07 RAS College Basketball Service!
E-mail Schedule
Reports will be sent out typically between 9pm and 2am PST the night before each game day. In some cases (tournaments, etc) lines will not be published until the following morning so a second report on the day of game will be necessary. Additionally, certain plays with volatile lines (totals, etc) may be released on the day of game. In these cases reports will be sent out typically between 8am and 11am PST on day of game. Please always check the "Next E-mail Update" box on the right. If you ever do not receive a report by the listed update time, contact us immediately.
Money Management
Money management is more important to the success of a sports bettor than picking winners. Please practice sound money management and always wager responsibly. Win streaks and losing streaks will occur, do not overreact to either.
Line Value
College basketball lines can be very volatile early in the season. It is advised to place wagers as early as possible. Always try to shop for the best possible line.
Sportsbooks
This service is best utilized by using sportsbooks who offer overnight lines for college basketball and offer totals on ALL games. The top four offshore that do this are: Pinnacle, The Greek, 5Dimes, & CRIS. If you need to open a new account, visit www.biggerbonus.com for an extra $50 bonus at sign-up.
*All lines current as of Friday at 2:00am PST.

Cal-State Northridge (+2.5) vs Portland State - 4:30pm Pacific - Game #563-564
CSUN is coming off a disappointing 11-17 season and their leading scorer Mike Efevberha left school early which has this team flying under the radar to start the season. Efevberha was talented but dominated the ball too much (14 shots per game) and by midseason was clashing with head coach Braswell. His departure opens the door for no less than nine key contributors returning from last year to step up, namely talented juniors G/F Jonathan Heard & F Calvin Chitwood. Braswell also added three JC transfers, two to shore up suspect point guard play, and another being a dead eye shooter who hit six 3's in last exhibition game. The Matadors are not only fast (led league in steals last 5 seasons), deep (can play 11-13 players), and experienced (10 players averaged double digit minutes last year), but will also have much better team chemistry this year.
Portland State took a hit before the season when starting center Anthony Washington left school for personal reasons. He was their best low post option and leaves the team with only one other player taller than 6-7. In the backcourt PSU only has one player available who saw meaningful action last year. Shooting guard Jake Schroeder, the team's leading scorer, graduated, sophomore guard Anthony Locke left the team, and shooting guard Paul Hafford is currently sidelined with an ankle injury. JC transfers and freshman will be trying to fill the void in their Division 1 debuts. PSU head coach Ken Bone says 8 different players have had injuries in the preseason making it difficult to practice. After losing center Washington, the Vikings will attempt to be more of an uptempo team. That not only requires time to master and depth that they do not currently have, but also plays right into the hands of a very athletic CSUN team who's record is signifcantly better when scoring over 70 points. PSU's only advantage here is playing two hours from campus but I believe the Matadors are good enough to overcome it. Take the points.

Portland at Oregon State (-8) - 7:00pm Pacific - Game #569-570
The Beavers have lost three key seniors from last year's team, but two of them missed significant time due to injury during the season, and there are seven returning players who saw significant minutes last year. There is reason to believe they will be just as good if not better than they were last season. Oregon State features one of the most experienced frontlines in the Pac-10 that goes 6-8, 6-9, and 6-10. Forward Sasa Cuic led the team in scoring last year and can do a bit of everything. Well touted redshirt freshman Josh Tarver will start at point guard. Before getting injured there was some talk that he would have earned the starting job by the middle of last season. Tarver is one of several freshman who are expected to contribute as head coach Jay John expects to have at least a 10 man rotation. The youth on this team will be served well by playing at home to start the season. Players have gone hard in preseason practice as they battle for playing time and say they are more mentally prepared for this season than they were last year.
Portland comes into this game a mess. Four of their best five players from last season have departed, a potential starter (PG Jeremiah Dominguez) has transfered, another potential starter (F Alex Tiefenthaler) has been suspended for at least this weekend's games, and a projected key reserve (F Robin Smeulders) was denied eligibility by the NCAA. Meanwhile, by far the teams best player, senior guard Darren Cooper is still not fully recovered from offseason knee surgery. He only played three minutes in the last exhibition game and is officially listed as day-to-day. On Tuesday he described his health at 65-70% with the expectation of being at full strength by the end of the month. With the team playing three games in three days it is unlikely he will see much action here. Among other things, Portland is breaking in a new head coach and is struggling to find a point guard. They committed 27 turnovers in their exhibition game. Oregon State lost at Portland by 14 last season but the game was tied with four minutes left. Oregon State will be looking to avenge that loss tonight. For these two young teams, home court advantage is critical. Give the points.

SE Louisiana vs Cal Poly (-3) - 4:15pm Pacific - Game #567-568
Despite numerous injuries, defections, four conference losses by 5 points or less, and heavy reliance on three true freshman, Cal Poly still finished in the upper division of the Big West last season. Two returnees received all conference honors last year and another earned freshman of the year. This year they have all key components back with the exception of part time starter sophomore guard Chaz Thomas (ineligible first semester), but the return of two players from injury and the addition of two promising transfers gives them an abundance of depth. The Mustangs will be a dangerous team in and out of conference. This figures to be a down year for SE Louisiana. They must replace three starters from last year including conference player of the year Ricky Woods who led the team in scoring and rebounding. Fresno State transfer guard D'Kryon Nicks may provide an offensive spark but he will not be eligible until the second semester. The Lions went 0-2 on a similar long trip to California early last year that included a loss to Division 1 charter member UC Davis (8-20 last year). After several years of futility there is a lot of excitement surrounding the Cal Poly team this year. This is a matchup they should win convincingly. Give the points.

Clemson (-10.5) vs Arkansas State - 6:00pm Pacific - Game #553-554
The Tigers essentially return four very good starters as forward James Mays is back from academic suspension. Sophomore guard K.C. Rivers showed promise last season and could start for most teams but will be the first player off the bench. Clemson will again be a competitive ACC team and definitely outclasses their opponent in this matchup. Arkansas State returns three starters from a 12-18 team last season. However, starting senior guard Jim Jones (academics) is ineligible for the first semester and starting junior point guard Yuol Banks suffered a hamstring injury in recent exhibition game that will keep him out at least two weeks. Sophomore guard Brandon Ballard quit the team before the season. ASU has only 9 scholarship players available this weekend and their only point guard is true freshman Ryan Wedel who did look good in the exhibition games but obviously is badly lacking experience. Leading scorer Isaac Wells was not allowed to practice on weekdays at the start of camp so that he could focus on academics. He came off the bench in both exhibition games. Clemson will be smaller this year and will want to speed up the tempo of games as much as possible which makes the 10.5 point spread easier to overcome. Old Dominion is the host of this tournament which happens to be Oliver Purnell's alma matter and CU starting point guard Vernon Hamilton also is from Virginia. The Tigers should roll here. Give the points.

Iowa State - Starting center Jiri Hubalek (suspension) will miss the first three games of the season. Hubalek led the team in scoring in two exhibition games. JC transfer guard Mike Taylor (academics) missed both exhibition games but is expected to be reinstated in time to play Friday vs UC Riverside. Taylor is a projected starter.
Loyola Chicago - Starting guard Majak Kou (one game suspension) will miss Friday vs Princeton. Kou was second on the team in scoring last year and is the team's top perimeter defender. Starting center Kye Patrick (broken foot) is expected to miss 6 weeks.
UC Irvine - Starting forward Nic Campbell (back) and reserve F/C Mark Kelley (hip) are not expected to play this weekend. Campbell is the team's top returning scorer from last year and Kelley is the top frontcourt reserve.
Colorado - Starting senior guard Marcus Hall (academics) is out the first semester.
Denver - Possible starter center Adam Tanner (arm) is out 1-2 weeks. Possible starter forward David Kummer (knee) was lost for the season in late August. JC transfer forward Mike Lattimore (thumb) is out indefinitely.
